Over the weekend I read an article that made me sit up and take notice. It was on a London-based website and featured a comment atrtibuted to the medical team from Tottenham Hotspur, although no direct quotes were given.

The piece was over the failure of the Premiership outfit to sign Moussa Dembele from Fulham last January 2016.

Having made a bid of around £6M for the French youngster, the deal did not go through. No explanation was given at the time but now someone claiming to speak on behalf of the Spurs medical team has decided to blame the breakdown of the transfer on Moussa’s fitness.

If there was any doubt about the player’s fitness then surely Celtic would have backed off from bringing Dembele to Glasgow, regardless of the £500,00 fee.

And looking at Moussa, with 29 goals to his name in a Celtic jersey so far, he doesn’t look to be short of anything at the moment!

The whole situation reminded me of the proposed John Hartson transfer from Wimbledon to Rangers (IL). Hartson was supposed to have failed a medical at Ibrox and the transfer deal was called off, only for the big Welshman to sign for Martin O’Neil and Celtic not too long after.

Hartson went on to play over 200 games for Celtic, scoring more than 100 goals in his five years at the club.

Would be nice to see Moussa do the same…
