The news that Billy Gilmour, Sevco’s boy wonder, has left Ibrokes to ply his trade south of the border with Chelsea for a nominal ‘development’ fee of £500,000.
Although the message from the new club was they wanted to keep the player, the fact that nearly half a million pounds is coming into the Ibrokes coffers, was of more importance, considering they live month to month on soft loans.
But the move did make me think about what Celtic have in our youths.
Our under 17’s won the Glasgow Cup, beating Sevco 2-1 only two weeks ago, the development Bhoys repeated the feat in the final of the Youth Cup, a bit more emphatically 3-0, and the natural progression from the youth ranks is now becoming more obvious.
Jack Aitchison, Calvin Miller, Anthony Ralston and Mikey Johnson have all experienced first team action this season, and none of them looked out of place.
They, like the rest of the Bhoys on the periphery of the first team, will certainly be given the opportunity to stake their claim under Brendan Rodgers.
The move of Gilmour at such a young age, highlights another massive difference between the clubs, Celtic have an abundance of talent coming out of Lennoxtown, with NO need to sell any of them.
Sevco can’t say the same.
