Celtic yesterday won the BetFred Cup, defeating Motherwell 2-0 at Hampden, the fourth trophy in a row under the stewardship of manager Brendan Rodgers, and the 65th game domestically undefeated.

In the process, the Bhoys upset the ‘neutrals’ who were telling us all week a win for the Steelmen would be good for Scottish Football.

To add to their disappointment, Celtic were correctly awarded a penalty, that Moussa Dembele confidently converted to make the score 2-0 to the Hoops, after James Forrest had put us one up.

Because the penalty was of a soft nature, the SMSM have gone into full ‘game changing’ mode, criticising the referee Craig Thompson for spoiling the game. Completely ignoring the fact the Motherwell player who pulled Scott Sinclair down, Kipre, was lucky to be on the park after a horrendous tackle on Moussa on the ten minute mark. Below..

Celtic did genuinely have someone to thank for holding on to their lead before the penalty incident, Craig Gordon.

His one handed save from Louis Moult’s header was world class. A save worthy of winning any game.

As the neutrals lick their wounds, the Celtic winning machine goes rolling on. Next stop, Motherwell at Fir Park on Wednesday night in the SPFL, before the Lanarkshire side visit Celtic Park on Saturday.

I’m sure the SMSM will crank up the ‘revenge’ narrative in the next few days, after all it’s all they’ve got..
