Celtic travel across the city tonight to Firhill for the last Derby of the season, knowing if we don’t lose the game, we’ll be just one league match and a Scottish Cup Final away from being crowned The Invincibles.
Who’d have thought at the start of the campaign we’d be undefeated domestically 44 games on?
When Brendan came into the club, he stated one of his main aims was to continue our domestic dominance, and I’m sure even he couldn’t have hoped for such consistency, considering the media accused us f having a ‘slump’ when we were only winning by the odd goal!
Our opponents this evening Partick Thistle, have had a good season too.
If you’d said they’d finish in the top six around the New Year, you’d been daft, but a run of great form took them up the league and comfortably into the top half of the table.
On our last visit to Maryhill in December, the Bhoys brought all three points back to Celtic Park courtesy of goals from Stuart Armstrong (2), Leigh Griffiths and Callum McGregor in our 4-1 win.
The same tonight isn’t out of the question, we’re scoring plenty of goals away from home, as the three last week in Aberdeen shows. Our first goal this evening will also be our 100th league goal of the season.
We also welcome back captain Scott Brown, now in his tenth year at the club. What an influence he has on the side.
Prediction time: the Hoops will head back across the city with our record intact, a few goals to spare and 103 points on the board.
Then it’s only Hearts and Aberdeen that stand between us and The Invincibles tag..
*In collaboration with Art Bhoy, we’ve produced a series of fur t-shirts with Player of the Year Scott Sinclair, Young Player Kieran Tierney, goal machine Moussa Dembele and captain Scott Brown. They’ll be available this weekend, online and at the gallery at Parkhead Cross.
