Another Keevins Prediction!

Posted by: Fanzone | Comments (6)

You’d Think He’d Learn By Now

Although I never heard it myself, I’ve been reliably informed that the Daily Ranger’s chief sportswriter Hugh Keevins has announced to the world that the SPL title race is now officially over.

Speaking on Radio Clyde’s Super Scoreboard after Celtic’ 1-1 draw with Falkirk the bold Hugh continued his lambasting of the club by telling us that Saturday was officially the day Celtic surrendered the title.

Pointing to the fact that we’re nine points behind Rankers he failed to mention our game in hand against Kilmarnock, which would take the lead down to six points, giving our record against the Ayrshire huns. (And we’ve still to play the MM twice).

This almost annual January prediction has in the past made a laughing stock out of the Shugster. He confidently predicted two years ago that Scotland’s Shame would win the SPL in a canter, which of course they didn’t, and last year backed the Hoops to retain the title, which we didn’t.

Good form there Hugh!

Therefore if we take Hugh Keevins word as Gospel, we can look forward to a champions party in the sun come the end of May!

Wembley Cup: Celtic 2 Spurs 0

The two goals scored in an exciting first half by Chris Killen and big Sammy were enough to make Celtic the winners of the inaugural Wembley Cup.

It was almost three as Paddy McCourt weaved his way through the Spurs defence only for his shot to drift wide of the mark.

Although Spurs did have a couple of late chances, it was always going to be Celtic’s day after Killen put the Hoops in front.

What must have pleased Mogga as much as anything was the fact that his starting eleven, with the exception of Glenn Loovens, was mostly second choice players.

The new man has brought a fresh impetus to the play and the players are responding the best way possible, by scoring goals, winning matches and keeping the door shut at the back. (Four games without conceding a goal)

There also seems to be a new maturity about the squad. Something that was evident when Aiden McGeady decided to choose his words carefully about last seasons bust-up with WGS.

It would have easy for the Bhoy to have a real go at his former gaffer but he didn’t and should be commended for that. Nice one Aiden.

This Time It’s For REAL!

Posted by: Fanzone | Comments (1)

Do The Job First

This time last week, the destination of the SPL title was firmly in our hands.

That was before we failed for the second time in three games to find the net, which is ironic considering we’re the league’s top scorers!

A 0-0 draw at Easter Road has left us needing to win against the wee Huns tomorrow and hope that Dundee United draw or hump the big Huns.

At this stage anything is possible.

Will Sammy Be The Hero?

Will Sammy Be The Hero?

But I don’t buy into the notion that Georgios Samaras‘ outburst will motivate the Huns at Tannadice.

  • By telling the truth, does that all of a sudden make the Huns a better team? Naw.
  • Will they all turn into some kind of super team and wipe the floor with the Arabs? Naw.
  • After three years of trying will this Huns side be good enough to win in Dundee? Naw.

So, all Sammy did was state a few facts.

But there could be a wee twist to Sammy’s words.

He knows that as much as any player, he’s failed to live up to his early season form. Sometimes injury does that to a player.

He also knows that tomorrow, someone will be a hero. Why not him?

Let’s face it, if we can’t beat the wee Huns at Celtic Park we don’t really deserve to win the title.

And remember, the Arabs are still looking for a point to get into Europe and they’ve last season’s CIS Cup score, and the Mike McCurry fiasco to settle.

This time Bhoys, it’s for REAL, no more slip-ups!

C’mon the Hoops!

John Fallon Says…..Wasted My Holiday!

Posted by: Fanzone | Comments (2)

Hail! Hail!

I’ve just got back home from holiday in Tenerife, I was enjoying the break, watched the Hoops win 2-1 over the Arabs, then bang, the bubble burst.

Our 0-0 draw with the pen-nibs, scunnered me, and effectively wasted my holiday. Yip, bhoys and ghirls, that’s how much it means.

Just Saying....

Just Saying....

So now I’m back home with sickness, not caused by the Sun, but The Hun!

But we’ve only got ourselves to blame. Letting a seven point lead slip is criminal, there were far too many inferior away performances.

This season has reminded me of big Billy’s reign and Martin O’Neill’s when we squandered a lead. We really should be going for 9 in-a-row, not 4 in-a-row!

So now it’s down to you bhoys, keep going, make it four and hopefully the Arabs will do us a turn at Tannadice.

Keep the faith,

Hail! Hail!

Could It Be Four In A Row?

Mibees ayes? Mibees naw? If it’s naw, does that mean we should all pack up and go home. Don’t renew our season tickets, never return to Celtic Park again.

One season out of four without the SPL.

Let’s get real here. Sure we were comfortable having a seven point lead over the Manky Mob, twice. And sure enough, we’ve blown it.

Could It Be Four?

Could It Be Four?

Nobody can be happy about that, I’m certainly not.

But all of a sudden the ‘Strachan Must Go’ brigade have got what they want. This is just the chink of light they wanted. I say they, because I’m not one of them.

What if he’s not that likeable? So what? Bad with the media? He’s not a patch on Big Jock, he despised the press.

And blowing a big lead? Well, ask big Billy about that, or even Davie Hay? Both gave up the title when Celtic were way ahead in the league, 10/12 points if I remember correctly.

That was a time when you only got two points for a win.

So, bhoy’s and ghirls, this week will be long, testing, full of arguments for and against Gordon Strachan remaining Celtic manager.

I’m for him. But that’s just my opinion.

To all those who ain’t going to renew they’re season ticket, which is their prerogative, just remember Celtic is for life, not just for Christmas.

And if you think this lot are bad, you’ve not seen Roy Kay, Frank Munro or Willie Garner in the Hoops.

Who was the manager of that bunch? Jock Stein, that’s who!
