Stokes Treble Helps Celts Through Highland Rough-house!

By Fanzone

‘Good Day’ For Celtic In Peterhead…

As predicted in yesterdays article, while watching today’s Scottish Cup tie at Peterhead we were constantly reminded of past ‘bad days’ by the Sky commentator, Ian Crocker I think it was, who seemed to take great pleasure in pointing out today was the sixth anniversary of the Bhoys 2-1 defeat to Clyde in the Scottish Cup.

He was also quick to mention the Peterhead players who took part that day and on other past ‘bad days’, ie ex-Caley Thistle and St Mirren players who were involved in wins against Celtic.

In fact it wasn’t until Stokesy put the Hoops ahead after 35 minutes that he started to concentrate on Celtic. Almost grudgingly acknowledging that the Bhoys ARE the current holders of the trophy.

His ‘impartiality’ didn’t go as far as suggesting that the Highland outfit were guilty of ‘leaving the boot in’ on more than one occasion. Nor was he inclined to suggest that Peterhead should have been reduced to ten men at the start of the second-half when Joe Ledley was on the receiving end of an elbow, right in front of the referee.

To say Alan Muir was lenient is an understatement. It’s easy to say the home side are part-time and that there were a few tired legs but some of the tackles were shocking.

In fact it’s testament to the Bhoys that they didn’t react to the rough house treatment dished out by Jim McInally’s men.

I suppose the only way to counter such tactics is to put the ball in the net and Anthony Stokes added two more goals in the second half to give the Celts a comfortable 3-0 win and the Irishman the match ball.

Ironically, the only ‘pundit’ to take issue with the home sides attitude was Chick Young who was scathing in his attack on the Peterhead tackling.

And here was me thinking I was paranoid…..

Well said, and if you want to read more negativity have a look at todays Sunday Herald, and compare the Celtic/Peterhead reports to the Rangers/Arbroath

Agree entirely. Crocker is useless, and his buddy is no better. Davie Provan insisted on calling our `keeper Forster.Maybe he had trouble reading the Polish name on the jersey of big Zaluska. And you`d think Davie would have something to say about the tackling of Peterhead. They could have caused serious injury to our players, and how the ref did not red card the thug who elbowed Joe right in front of him beggars belief. Thank God no one was hurt in what was a very good, professional performance.

    Hail Hail.

I c the Scottish press Keith Jackson have decided not to print the story that rangers fans were letting off flares at yesterday’s game

Spoke to a guy last night who works with Sky, apparently Crocker is a West Ham fan!
