There’s no doubting the importance of tonight’s Champions League match day two tie in Belgium against RSC Anderlecht, any kind of result barring a defeat will be seen as a positive one.
The Hoops have never gone into a European tie in better form, courtesy of the unbeaten domestic run of 57 games without reverse.
Sure we’ve had a couple of hiccups in the Champions League since the run began, but when you consider the quality of opposition those defeats came from, Barcelona, PSG, Borussia Monchengladbach, then it’s fair to say we’re learning along the way.
And it’s that domestic form that gives the Bhoys confidence to get something out of the game in Brussels.
With Brendan’s favoured central pairing of Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata coming through Saturday’s stroll in the park unscathed, and hit man Moussa Dembele getting more minutes, the manager is better placed now to field the side he wants than at any time this season.
So much so, it’s difficult to guess just who’ll start the game.
I’m sure that’s kind of selection headache Brendan won’t mind, considering all the fuss just a few weeks ago about having to play Nir Bitton as a makeshift central defender against FC Astana in the play-offs.
Whatever the team, the gaffer will have them fired up to bring at least a point back to Glasgow.
Good luck Bhoys!
