Today at the usual “Hate Filled” Swinecastle once again absolutely suicidal defending from Glen Loovens has cost The Hoops three precious points.
With The Bhoys coasting through the match following a goal from Big Sammy and looking likely to add to this total at any time our defence, or lack of it, then pressed the self destruct button and gave the Jambos a lifeline they didn’t deserve. A week headed clearance from Danny Fox was pounced upon by the outstanding Aiden McGeady who cushioned a header back to Glen Loovens to clear away but sadly once again the aforementioned “Glen Loosem” missed the ball completely and left Gary Caldwell having to make a desperate lunging tackle which resulted in the wee huns getting a penalty and Big Heid being sent off. Maybe it’s now time, after Heid has served his supension, to team him up again with McManus as the central defenders as Loovens just makes to many wrong decisions at vital times.
In saying all this we should still have gone on to win the game even with 10 men as we created many chances which our strikers failed to convert and none more so than Big Sammy who missed the sitter of the season…I can just hear the huns singing Sammyyyyy the same way we sing Seebboooo when someone misses a chance in the future.
With The Bhoys now 4 points adrift at the top of the SPL we must take full points from our next two fixtures against Hamilton & Kilmarnock before the Rankers visit on January 3rd so we can the close the gap by winning at Paradise. The transfer window will be open by then and maybe just maybe the Celtic Board will allow the manager some money to spend on solid central defenders….or even bring back Darren O’Dea…
I agree with most of your comments. Yes Loovens is a liability. He was to blame for the Hearts first and probably second goal, but for God’s sake, time for McManus to be back in the team. Have you forgot about McManus’s recent games. Falkirk and Rapid, not to mention all the goals he helped to ship over the past season and a half. Celtic are starting every game away from home at the moment. should I saw for a season and a half, one goal down with the group of defenders we have. Caldwell, McManus and Loovens have had enough chences in my book. O’Dea is not any better than these guys. O’Dea became a better defender in the eyes of some Celtic fans when he left to go out on loan. He is that good that he is unable to get in the Reading side. January should be about getting defenders into the club for Mowbray, or start to give the younger players a chance, Thompson or Misun.
Unfortunately Stephen McManus is even worse than Loovens and Caldwell so teaming him up again with Caldwell is not the answer. We need two brand new centre halves in January.
jesus, its a no brainer, mogga has to get 2 new centerhalves in jan, if the dog on the street can see it, he must see it, solvi ottosen, jan durcia,theres two i would sign, for gods sake if i can identify those 2 very good players that would come at at very good price, and command not only the 18 yard box but a reasonable wage then surley mogga and his network of scouts can bloody well identify 2 decent centerhalfes as well!!! can they ??? we,ll hold the verdict till jan 2010 ps.. im sick to the teeth of sammi holding his head in his hands after another crappy discision he makes on the pitch…pure rubish not good enough
Your comments were making sense then you mentioned a partnership of Heid and hoof. As Glen said, ‘we need two new defenders’ and we need them now.

Why did they let BOBO and O’DEA go? At least when they were playing we never shipped goals…We have known for over a year and half that central defence was a worry and that was why WGS bought Glenn Loovens but nothing has changed. Even the Scottish defence were crap when Caldwell & McManus played there!!!!
I don’t think the board smells of roses but they must act quickly one way or another or else we will go down further.

Just when our attacking play is beginning to look the part in the last 4-5 games the sieve brings us crashing down to Earth again.
This needs sorted in January and quick. Much as I think they are headless wee gonks I have to admit I am not looking forward to the likes of Novo and Kenny ‘chasing a crisp poke in the wind’ Miller running at this shower come January 3rd.
