Bring On The Arsenal!
ByHere We Go Again…
It’s Monday morning here in Glasgow on the eve of Celtic’s Champions League play-off first leg against London giants Arsenal.
And all I can read about is the usual spouting off from opposition players on how they’re going to come up to Celtic Park and do to Celtic what they did to Everton, or words to that effect.
Well, like most of the Faithful I’m sure you’ve heard it all before.
Going back nearly 40 years Leeds United were delighted when they drew Celtic in the old European Cup, because the English media had Don Revie’s men down as the favourites to win the cup.
What happened? 1-0 To Celtic in Leeds and 2-1 to Celtic at Hampden.
Years later the same thing again. Blackburn this time. 1-0 Celtic Park, followed by a Henrik Larrson inspired 2-0 win at Ewood Park.
What was it Souness said about, “Men against boys” after the first leg?
Then of course we drew Liverpool in the next round. Surely the men from Merseyside would knock out the Hoops.
Nope. 1-1 at Celtic Park, then a memorable John Hartson strike to seal a 2-0 victory at Anfield.
So, despite all these ‘great’ English football clubs having more money and supposedly better players, very rarely can they match the spirit and endeavour of a Celtic team.
And with the backing of 60,000 Celtic fans on one of our special European nights, very few teams leave Glasgow with anything, just ask Fergie, Ancellotti and Souness….
How unfortunate then that arsenal barely have any english players who care about this rivalry. The only thing you actually have going for you are your incredible fans and stadium. Football wise you just can’t compete! Well enough talking, we’ll see tomorrow night
I never really rated Celtic they would probably battle for Europa spots in the PL. Arsenal will rip them to shreds
So it\’s OK for Celtic fans to be confident and bullish, but it\’s not OK for Arsenal fans to be the same? Admittedly there are some gooners who are being quite arrogant about it all but the vast majority expect a tough game and are just doing what Celtic fans will be doing on the night, hoping for a great result for their team!
Arsenal players do not engage in cheap talk. They are prematch mutes who keep opinions to themselves. Honestly it is Celtic players who are engaged in prematch mind games. The only arsenal player who has uttered anything to do with game against Celtic is Thomas Vaemelen. He hasnt said anything disrespectful other than that he expects a tough and physical game as promised by no other than the Celtic players!
What a load of sh*te. Chip on the shoulder sh*te actually. You’ve been reading the headlines rather than the quotes/articles eg. The Daily Record on Vermaelen.
Any examples of this “spouting off” or are you actually just trying to whip up a frenzied atmosphere and can’t think of a better way?
will you be writing another blog after arsenal go through on more than a 5 goal aggregate lead?
“And all I can read about is the usual spouting off from opposition players on how they’re going to come up to Celtic Park and do to Celtic what they did to Everton, or words to that effect.”
Point one quote to that effect please.
Get yourself along to Paradise tomorrow and you’ll see we don’t need to ‘whip up’ an atmosphere!
have you been on the buckfast ?
i havent heard any Arsenal players saying they are going to do to Celtic what they did to Everton…..
We wont lose in Glasgow and you wont win in London. FACT
Up The Arsenal
Paul, if that’s the case I’ll give you credit where it’s due. All I’m saying here pal is Ronaldo, Rooney, Kaka, Messi etc have all come to Glasgow and I’ve yet to see them destroy us. We’ll see if Arsenal are any better.
If anything, I’ve noticed a lot of neutrals backing Celtic up for this tie. Fair enough, because we know it won’t be easy at Celtic Park. I’d be delighted with a draw there and of course ecstatic if we got more than that.
But it’s all about respecting the opposition and the venue. Keep our heads down and focused on the job.
Arsenal will probably end up winning by a 2 or 3 goal margin.
Only the Celtic players are doing the boasting, and we understand why, we get a bit worried though with talk of in their faces, up at ‘em and in amongst ‘em. The season is young and as always we have a very good growing young team. We like you hope for the best.
Celtic at Parkhead will be a difficult tie and hopefully arsenal will manage a draw and and away goal as well.
It’s the usual EPL arrogance, “we’re the best league in the world”, “we’ve got loads of cash”, “We’re goanna win everything”, except you don’t do you?
Champions league?
NAW!
European Championships!
Naw!
You lot are going to win the World Cup every time it comes around, and let the whole world know it with your usual big mouthed bragging about how superior the ELP is to EVERY other league on the planet, but the truth of the matter is that you one it once at home, by a dodgy goal, over forty years ago and haven’t been in the final since! (I think your only real achievement is being able to say you’re the best national side in the UK!)
You guys need a reality check, The Beast (Souness) got his when he tried the braggard tactic when our Bhoys humiliated him and his lot.
If we’d have played Man U in the CL last 16 rather than the group stages, we would have dumped them out.
And as Fz rightly states we seen L’pool out of Europe, you gooners should learn a bit of humility, some of you would defo test positive for the hun virus!
Go to NewsNow and read Peter Grants interview from Talksport on the Video Celts blog. A forthright honest assesement of the tie. Peter gives his opinion with HUMILITY and pragmatism, you should read it, you might learn something!!
“And all I can read about is the usual spouting off from opposition players on how they’re going to come up to Celtic Park and do to Celtic what they did to Everton, or words to that effect.”
Care to quote these mysterious disparaging comments by Arsenal players blogger?
I haven’t seen a single word that could be construed as anything other than respectful and cautious myself.
Is this a case of just wanting to write the above article, regardless of facts?
Arsenal also have a proud history of getting results at some of the toughest grounds in the world. we silenced the Turks at fenerbahce, We have humbled both Italian giants at the San Siro, first English team to beat Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. traveled to alot of hostile eastern European cities where than f ans make Glaswegians look like pussy cats. And gotten results at them all.
Hows that for a bit of history.
Pussy cats? Mmm, you’ll obviously NOT be in Glasgow tomorrow night!
Vermaelen-“Celtic are a good team and we will have to be on top of our game to beat them”
Van Persie-”it’s going to be difficult”
Wenger-”I expect a high-paced game at Celtic Park. Celtic have the dimension to play in the Premier League at the top. Celtic are on the international market as well, so it is not impossible for them to compete at this level”
Its going to be a tough one at Parkhead, as a gunner Im concerned.
This is the formation Id be interested in…
————Almunia
Sagna–Gallas–Vermaelen–Clichy
————Song
——-Cesc—-Denilson/Diaby
—-Shava—Edu—RVP
That formation again
Almunia
Sagna Gallas Vermaelen Clichy
Song
Cesc Denilson/Diaby
Shava Edu RVP
Pre-match banter aside, this is the most eagerly anticipated Euro tie at Parkhead for years and this is down to the quality and glamour of the opposition and the fact that we haven’t played Arsenal since we began making excursions into the Champions League. Even last season in the group stages proper there wasn’t the same levels of excitement generated. Just shows how far we have come in 10 years when getting paired with Man Utd is met with the response of “Snore. Not them again”. Certainly not this time. I can’t wait.
Predictions?!? I fancy us to take a one-goal lead to the Emirates which will at least give us something to cling on for dear life to. As the author says, Bring It On!
Lets all laugh at celtic!!!!… They think just because they beat aberdeen 3-1 away that they will outplay the gunners who destroyed everton. Yes i know everton only have a centre-back worth 25 million and celtic one not even worth 5 million.. but come on lets give them some credit…
I think arsenal will win this match but Celtic will give them a good go and it will be close but arsenals extra quality will shine through at the emirates
owh yeah. 2-0
